Lu Yiwan was once the Bed God of the Celestial Realm, but she accidentally contracted a strange, deadly poison called Nine-Turn Lovesickness. She has less than a hundred days to live.
The poison is exceptionally bizarre. Besides making her cough up blood all the time, it makes her unable to fall in love. Even looking at a handsome man worsens its effects.
The only cure is a single remaining stalk of Heartless Grass in the Four Realms, which must be refined into medicine.
She hears that the Heartless Grass is with Sang Bushou, the new Meng Po, so she disguises herself as a guard of the Underworld and infiltrates his side to find it.
The trouble is, he is a breathtakingly beautiful man and impossible to handle. She has to deal with him while doing her best not to look at him.
Later,
she finally finds the Heartless Grass. It turns out to be his true form.
But by then, she has fallen for him.

When she wakes again,
Lu Yiwan discovers that she has returned to the moment she first infiltrated the Underworld.
This is her thousandth time sneaking in.
Everything is a Möbius loop.
*
But when Sang Bushou wakes again, he finds everything has changed.
He is no longer the Meng Po of the Underworld, and Lu Yiwan is no longer the Bed God of the Celestial Realm.
She has become the ruthless, heartless Demon Lord of the Demon Realm.
He is afflicted with a strange poison and near death,
so he becomes her disciple to infiltrate the Demon Realm and find the antidote.
And this isn't his first time infiltrating it, either.
