A Heartbeat Like the Tide

Xie Yu was cool and refined as jade. As the representative of G University's new students, he was a dazzling star destined for greatness. Wen Shuhe was reserved and quiet, an unremarkable nobody who always played by the rules. The only thing that made people notice her was that she and Xie Yu had been childhood friends. For years, she had made a habit of bringing him lunch every day, bringing him water when he played basketball, and quietly following behind him like a little shadow. Until Xie Yu fell for Yu Ying, the beauty of the dance department. The aloof young man was willing to bend for her. He planned a grand confession for her. He fought for her. He defied a teacher for her, then scooped her up in front of everyone and rushed her to the infirmary. So even someone as cool and proud as him could be so passionate and reckless, with eyes and heart filled entirely by one person. Wen Shuhe was distracted for a moment, but kept her boundaries in mind. When the people around her eagerly gossiped, offering sympathy or mockery, she acted as if she hadn't heard them and buried herself in her books, working through one test paper after another. Time flowed by, and before long they were in their third year. Xie Yu and Yu Ying had broken up and gotten back together countless times. Wen Shuhe had gone from the middle of the class rankings to the top five in her major. That day, as she picked up her torn notes and slashed backpack, Wen Shuhe silently cried. By chance, she met someone. Shen Cen'an came from a prominent family and was arrogant and flamboyant. Like a shooting star streaking against the current, he was dazzling and uninhibited, the person every student was most afraid to provoke. He bent down to meet her gaze, his tone casual and cocky.
