Song Shuyu, the educated youth sent to the countryside who is famous for miles around and has captured the hearts of countless girls, is mild-mannered and polite on the surface, but in truth he never lets a grudge go unanswered. Then one day, he secretly raises a little mermaid in a bamboo cup.
The little mermaid has raven-black hair, red lips, watery eyes, two small, fan-shaped ears, and a beautiful fish tail. He's a lovely, dewy little thing, but he's also arrogant and overbearing, demanding meat every day and threatening to eat Song Shuyu if he doesn't get any.
Not long afterward, the little mermaid starts whining that he wants to become a vegetarian. By the light of a lamp, Song Shuyu sews him tiny clothes and coldly refuses.
After that, the people of Hexi Village see that the handsome but usually lazy educated youth, Song, earns more work points with every passing day and uses meat coupons as if they cost nothing. He also mutters to himself every day, acting all mysterious. Eventually, he comes back from who knows where carrying a little girl, then follows her around with a dark face like an old nanny.
