The Sea King's Personal Code of Conduct

The large-scale full-dive game Sweet Dreams features an NPC interaction and affection system. Players can freely role-play and pursue NPCs, who develop affection for different players. The first player to reach one hundred percent affection can claim that NPC as their exclusive partner.

Lu Mobei once tried the game and pursued one of its NPCs. The poor thing had a tragic past, was timid and fearful, and was painfully submissive in love. Unfortunately, his stats were so bad that Lu Mobei found him too much trouble to keep, but not worth playing with, so he started trying to win over other NPCs who hadn't been claimed yet.

Before the game shut down, she clung to his leg and cried her heart out, saying she only loved him and would wait for him to come back. Even so, Lu Mobei quit without looking back.

Three years later, Sweet Dreams launches again. The world state has been reset, but NPC affection levels have not.

Lu Mobei logs back in and heads to the game lobby.

"Hello, sir."

Lu Mobei: "I'm here to find Xu Lu. I'm the only player who maxed out her affection."

After logging back into the game, Lu Mobei figures Xu Lu will come running to find him. He can't help but sneer.

One day, two days... five days. He can't take it anymore and goes to the game lobby to ask the NPCs where Xu Lu is.

That's when he discovers that more than ten players in the lobby have come to find her.

"You're the only player who maxed out my affection."

Lu Mobei: This is freaking ridiculous. :)

From the heroine's perspective:

Xu Lu is an underpowered S-rank NPC. Back then, to find a player to bind herself to, she started frantically raising players' affection, hoping to catch some sucker.

The game was going to shut down anyway.

Three years later, the game launches again, and all the players she'd led on back then have come to rekindle things with her.

Xu Lu: Anyone there? This is urgent.
