Hua Zheng transmigrates into the tragic first wife from a novel written by her roommate. They have the same name, so it’s obviously deliberate. She has a huge fight with her roommate over it, and then, to her dismay, she transmigrates!
Even worse, she hasn’t finished the novel. She only read the beginning. In the original story, the male lead wants to enlist with a fellow villager. To be safe, he marries the first wife before joining the army. In the end, she never gets pregnant and suffers constant mistreatment in her husband’s family.
The male lead doesn’t die. He thrives in the military and keeps rising through the ranks, becoming a battalion commander by the early years of the new nation. During that time, he meets the future female lead while recovering from an injury. The two are devoted to each other until death.
What’s infuriating is that the book tries to whitewash the male and female leads by claiming the first wife was so moved by their love that she willingly stepped aside. As if anyone would be moved by their love! Hua Zheng is furious when she gets to that part. She turns around and has a huge fight with her roommate, only to become the cannon-fodder first wife herself...
