A Cool Chime of Mutual Affection

Yan Liang and Lin Qing have always been at odds. Everyone knows that sparks fly whenever they meet.

They've argued since they were students, kept bickering into adulthood, and continued to snipe at each other at work. Nobody can talk them out of it. They look set to keep this up for the rest of their lives.

One time, after getting drunk, Yan Liang raised her chin at Lin Qing in front of all their friends and said, "Even if every man and woman on earth died out and not a single trans person was left, I'd rather die alone than look twice at a frigid person like you."

Lin Qing smiled faintly. "Likewise."

But that very night, Yan Liang slept with Lin Qing, again and again. The next morning, faced with the utterly chaotic scene, Yan Liang blushed and fled.

Some time later, someone happened to see Yan Liang pinning Lin Qing against a slide, puckering her lips for a kiss. "Are you bad at math? You owe me one more kiss."

Lin Qing, usually so reserved and courteous, pecked at those tempting lips a few times. Her eyes were tender as water. "I've kissed you too many times. Are you going to pay me back?"

The onlookers were baffled. Weren't you two enemies?

[Being at each other's throats can also be another kind of devotion]
