Crossing the Mortal Realm

A reincarnation and tribulation story, with a little angst. After finishing Volume One, you can read its sister story, "Catching the Dragon, Toppling the Phoenix".

Gu Mo thinks he's like a child trafficker. He lured Ye Xuan back to the mountain with a packet of candy, and the longer he raised him, the more pleasing to the eye the boy became. Gu Mo even felt proud of himself for getting to be a father.

Ye Xuan thinks he must be crazy. The moment he saw Gu Mo, he liked him for no reason. He reached out, ran off with him, and called him Senior Brother nonstop every day. Little did he know that this love would last three lifetimes.

But the child Gu Mo had painstakingly raised became a great demon whom everyone wanted to hunt down and kill after just one trip down the mountain. The demon looked down on all living things: he was born from the hearts of men, and would die by human nature all the same.

"What, then, is good and evil?"

"Whatever the world cannot accept is evil."

He found it laughable. The world said that laying down the butcher's knife made one a Buddha. People were broad-minded and forgiving, yet feared the demon who had saved them.

Even the Heavenly Dao toyed with him. The gods saved the world, but none would save Ye Xuan.

Ye Xuan looked at Gu Mo. "Senior Brother, Heaven won't save me."

Gu Mo said, "Don't be afraid. If Heaven won't save you, I will."

[A little bonus]

The demon looked down upon all living things, but he alone smiled and held out his hand to Gu Mo.

From "Senior Brother, hold me" to "Beautiful one, will you come with me?"

The gods cursed under their breath: "Tsk. We can't beat him, and we can't outdo him at showing off their love."

The author doesn't like outlining and lets the story unfold by instinct. They also revise often, to fix typos or fill in plot holes after getting carried away while writing.

There are lots of couples, so ship whoever you like. The first two volumes are a little angsty, but the final volume is guaranteed to be incredibly sweet.
