My Husband Is Sick

Liu Yao married Ji Yao when she was sixteen. To outsiders, Ji Yao was well-read and refined, the son of a duke with a prominent family. They thought Liu Yao had married into a distinguished family. But no one knew how badly Ji Yao treated her. He was violent, impatient, and quick to anger, and he beat and berated Liu Yao, often getting drunk and abusing her. Then Ji Yao fell and died. Before Liu Yao could even feel happy, she watched in disbelief as he came back to life. But overnight, Ji Yao had become very strange. He no longer recognized his wife, and his temperament had changed completely, as if he were a different person. Her new husband seemed to be a little unwell. He was an uneducated commoner who could barely read and couldn't even compose a poem. He knew nothing about etiquette or propriety and was always making a fool of himself. But he treated Liu Yao wonderfully. He sang her strange songs, told her bizarre stories, and even helped her draw water to wash her feet. When he smiled, his eyes were bright as the stars in the sky, and Liu Yao was all they held. Liu Yao rather liked this new husband, so she poured out all the medicine she'd prepared. To her surprise, someone found out and accused Liu Yao of trying to murder her husband. Liu Yao remained expressionless and said nothing. Only her husband was frantic, scratching his head and jumping about as he tried to defend her: "Don't talk nonsense! She got the medicine to cure me!" Someone challenged him: "You're always been in good health. What illness could you have? Don't let her fool you, Third Young Master." Ji Yao panicked: "I'm sick! I... I can't get it up!" Later, her husband was always calling Liu Yao his goddess and saying he was a pure-hearted male college student. Liu Yao: "I know what 'pure-hearted' and 'college' mean, but what's a 'pure-hearted male college student'?"
