Day and Night

The day Gu Wei's biological father was brought down, Zhou Yu followed her friends in a custom-made little red dress, laughing at him for losing everything.

The day Zhou Yu broke with her family, Gu Wei lowered his eyes, hands in his uniform pockets, and clapped beside her ear for ages.

Zhou Yu thought someone as twisted in every way as Gu Wei could live just fine no matter who died. She never expected that one day, while he was feverish and half-conscious, he would tug at her sleeve in near desperation and whisper, "Don't go."

She only wanted to grow stronger, running forward with all her might, yet she couldn't stop looking back. She was afraid that if she didn't hold on to him, the world would truly abandon him.

For years, Gu Wei had lived day after day without any joy, waiting for everything to end and for death to come.

He never expected someone to appear and make him feel that being alive wasn't so meaningless after all.

Later, he understood. All he wanted was to protect her in this surreal world, tend the roses blooming by the front door, and give her a home.

The moon wanes, the sun is eclipsed, day falls dark and night shines bright. At last, someone comes for you.

I revised the first third, and there are parts of the rest I'm unhappy with too, but I'm afraid to make more changes. It's my first novel, after all, so please be patient with it.
