My Husband Is Such a Pain

[An early work, and not very well written. Please go easy on me.] They've been married for three years, but she's seen her husband fewer than three times. Years ago, they met outside a Buddhist hall. A fortune-teller at the entrance said they were a match made in heaven. When their families casually asked around, they discovered that the two had been born on the same day, in the same month and year, at the same time. It was fate. So Xiahou Qingyin and Zhuge Linyi were forced into an arranged childhood engagement. Her family had once been the wealthiest in Xuzhou, but when her parents' business failed, they had no choice but to marry their daughter off early... A little scene: Poor Xiahou Qingyin. Her own husband, Zhuge Linyi, grits his teeth and threatens her whenever he sees her. "While I'm still in a good mood, sign this divorce agreement as soon as you can." Lin Se, the prefect of Xuzhou, drops by every day, fanning himself as he says, "Well, Mrs. Zhuge, balancing the books again? Come on, hand them over and let me have a look. Have you been dodging taxes again this month?" Xiao Qinglin, the business rival from next door, spends all day yelling outside her shop: "Everything I sell is cheaper than what the competition offers! Come on in and take a look! And may all our customers enjoy good health, a happy life, and great fortune!" And then there's Wen Mo, the teacher her parents-in-law hired to teach her to read. Every day, he patiently and politely tells her, "You got this character wrong. Go copy it another thousand times." Xiahou Qingyin thinks all this misfortune is Zhuge Linyi's fault for never coming home. Everyone knows the Zhuge household has no man in charge, so of course they all come bullying her just because she's a woman. No! Xiahou Qingyin grits her teeth and swears to herself. As long as she lives, she'll drag her husband back home, drag him back, and beat him up. Theme: A simple, happy life in the ordinary world.
