Synopsis
Two orphans of unknown origins fight for their own causes. Right and wrong, good and evil: will they one day smile together beneath the moon as they reminisce, or will they end up worlds apart, blades and spears crossed?
A conversation between two children:
Little girl: "Have you ever seen fireworks?"
Little boy: "Yeah."
Little girl: "Could you describe them to me?"
Her eyes shone brightly.
Little boy: "..."
After a while, he said slowly, "How about I set some off for you?"
The light in the little girl's eyes shone even brighter. She nodded like a pecking chick. "Sure, sure!"
The little boy made a fist and slowly raised it into the air. Then he suddenly opened his hand, spreading his five fingers like a flower...
The little girl smiled innocently. "It's so pretty!"
The little boy smiled too, as if relieved.
The little girl looked at him seriously. "Thank you. This is the first time I've ever seen fireworks."
The little boy was about to say something when the little girl added, "But can I ask you something?"
The little boy paused, then said, "Go ahead."
Little girl: "I heard people say fireworks are like lots of stars gathering together on a night, shining really, really brightly. Why didn't the fireworks you set off for me glow?"
Little boy: "...You can imagine it."
The little girl thought that made sense and didn't ask any more. "My master says people should return kindness for kindness. I'll set off some fireworks for you too!"
The two silly children happily set off fireworks.
A conversation between two figures of renown:
Ling Ruo crouched in prison. "I heard the Lu family has a fine incense called Cai Gui." She looked up at the man floating in midair with the help of his inner power.
Wei Mo nodded in agreement. "It's a family heirloom. Anyone who smells it will sense the fragrance they like best."
"The Lu family sells incense, so there's no way they'd hand over something so precious." Ling Ruo chuckled. "But I'm still going to get it. Let me think about when..."
Wei Mo: "..." Maybe you don't need to think about it now. There's no chance anymore.
Two days later, the Lu family was convicted. Some were imprisoned, and others were exiled.
Wei Mo was reclining halfway up his pear tree while Ling Ruo hopped around beneath it. "Where's Cai Gui? Where's Cai Gui? When did you swipe it?" Remembering how silent he'd been a few days ago, she scolded him in exasperation. "You could at least have left me some! I need it!"
"You can imagine it," Wei Mo said earnestly. "Or come up here and take a closer sniff. With your talent, blending incense should be no problem."
Ling Ruo: "...Wei Mo!!!"
According to reliable sources, that night the esteemed Wei Mo was hounded by a pack of hungry, rabid dogs and couldn't leave his home.
Ling Ruo: "Oh, I improved the formula. They should smell like meaty bones now."
