The Thousand Buddhas of the Worthy Aeon. An aeon is a Buddhist concept of time, divided into small, intermediate, and great aeons.

According to Buddhist scriptures, a thousand Buddhas appear during the Worthy Aeon. Since many sages and saints appear, it is called the "Worthy Aeon."

The previous great aeon was the Adornment Aeon, and the next will be the Constellation Aeon. The great aeon after that is called the Fire Aeon, followed by the Ice-and-Lightning Aeon.

No Buddha appears during the first through eighth small aeons of the Worthy Aeon.

During the ninth aeon, when the human lifespan has declined to sixty thousand years, Krakucchanda Buddha appears as the first Buddha of the Worthy Aeon.

When it declines to forty thousand years, Kanakamuni Buddha appears as the second Buddha of the Worthy Aeon.

When it declines further to twenty thousand years, Kashyapa Buddha appears.

When it declines to one hundred years, Shakyamuni Buddha appears as the fourth Buddha of the Worthy Aeon.

During the tenth small aeon, when the human lifespan reaches eighty thousand years, Maitreya Buddha appears as the fifth Buddha of the Worthy Aeon.

No Buddha appears during the eleventh through fourteenth small aeons.

During the fifteenth small aeon, nine hundred and ninety-four Buddhas appear one after another.

No Buddha appears during the sixteenth through nineteenth small aeons.

During the twentieth small aeon, Rucika Buddha appears.

Together, they make up the thousand Buddhas of the Worthy Aeon.
