On her first day at work, zoo keeper Luo Qingtan is struck by sudden misfortune. When she wakes up, she discovers that she has transmigrated into a cultivation novel as Qingtan, an outer disciple of the Spirit Beast Sect who is destined to be a cannon-fodder villain, though she hasn't turned evil yet.
Luo Qingtan remembers the three rules for surviving as a villain who turns evil: Stay away from the male lead! Stay away from the female lead! Never cultivate!
To stay alive, Luo Qingtan returns to her old profession and devotes herself to caring for the sect's spirit beasts, as well as a little piglet she picked up along the way.
When the piglet grows plump and fat, Luo Qingtan sharpens her kitchen knife. "Look at this pig, so fat and round. I'll slaughter it and have it for New Year's."
The terrified piglet decides to win Luo Qingtan over.
On the first day, it brings her precious treasures from the Spirit Treasure Pavilion.
On the second day, it brings her a cultivation manual from the Heavenly Star Palace.
Luo Qingtan teases it: "Bring me a husband tomorrow, and I'll spare your life."
On the third day, it brings her the Spirit Venerable of the Spirit Beast Sect.
Wen Si, cold-faced and black-hearted, glances at Luo Qingtan as she performs a spectacular pratfall on level ground, then turns to ask his great-nephew, "She's so silly. Can she even cook spirit food?"
Later, after eating her up, Wen Si declares that she's even tastier than spirit food.
