When Ji Shao, heir to the Prince of Huainan, was seventeen, his family was framed by political enemies. They all died in battle, leaving him with nothing.
So he took up his blade alone, scheming at every turn and paving his way with blood. He inherited the title of Prince of Huainan and became a notorious, murderous minister in the Great Wei dynasty.
He killed his enemies, purged the rebels, and overthrew imperial authority.
But when everyone was trembling in fear, convinced Ji Shao was about to declare himself emperor, he instead led Wei Xu, the least-favored prince in the palace, to the throne. Facing the assembled court officials, he smiled casually and said, "Who said I wanted to be emperor? What I want to be is the emperor's man."

Wei Xu was the least-favored young prince in the palace. The boldest thing he ever did was steal a kiss from Ji Shao while he was asleep, and even that got discovered.
