The real Shen family daughter has been found, and Shen Junning turns out to be the fake daughter who took her place.
Everyone says Shen Junning owes Shen Biro a life of luxury for the sixteen years she enjoyed, and owes the Shen family for raising her.
Shen Junning doesn't want to be in anyone's debt anymore. But just as she is saying goodbye, a villain suddenly appears in the house. Thinking she owes them anyway, she uses her body to shield her adoptive father from a fatal blow.
When she wakes up, her adoptive mother tells her, as if doing her a favor, that she can stay as their adopted daughter.
Shen Junning quickly shakes her head. No, no, thank you. She just wants to go back to her hometown and marry a strapping man.
They don't know that while Shen Junning was unconscious, her soul traveled a thousand years into the future, where she learned far too much!
The history books say that Xiao Mu, the most notorious villain of the Su Dynasty, was calculating and ruthless. He wielded power as Grand Secretary for many years, yet gave all his tenderness to his wife, Shen Junning.
Though she doesn't know how this mix-up between the real and fake daughters came about, under the current circumstances, even if Shen Junning stays, she won't have the status to become Xiao Mu's fiancee.
Once Shen Biro marries Xiao Mu, she has no idea what that ruthless man might do to her.
More importantly, she's afraid Xiao Mu will take revenge on her.
Shen Junning grew up in the inner chambers, used to watching people scheme against one another. She always thought she'd find a man she could keep in line. Xiao Mu seemed to fit the bill perfectly. He looked mild-mannered, like a sweet little puppy, and she couldn't help but bully him.
She figured the calculating Xiao Mu had surely made a note of it.
Shen Junning feels wronged. You're a big bad wolf pretending to be a puppy. Look what happened: she started taking advantage of you!
The once-famous beauty left town in disgrace, and everyone laughed, guessing when Shen Junning would tire of scraping by and come crying back to the Shen family.
They waited and waited. Shen Junning ate well, lived well, and became a wealthy merchant.
They waited some more. It turned out her father was a prince who had been living among the common people, and Shen Junning became a princess, rising high above them all.
Xiao Mu (wagging his tail): Please take advantage of me.
