Sakanatsu Mari is terrible at remembering faces, but when she was seven, she fell in love at first sight with a volleyball-playing boy she'd met only once. And so began her long, long search for her future husband, stretching across days, months, and years.
"Mari, even if you really do find that volleyball boy, you might not recognize him," her older sister, Sakanatsu Kyoko, teased.

"But, little Mari, if that boy is still playing volleyball, maybe I can help you find him," her older sister's childhood friend, Tōru Oikawa, teased.

"I've always been curious, Kyoko. What was your first impression of me?" Tōru Oikawa had wanted to ask this for a long time. The two childhood friends seemed to have grown used to each other's presence before they could even remember. They knew each other so well that when they tried to make out the shadow in their hearts, their blurred vision left them confused.
"You were a little kid who got so scared when people picked on you that you wet your pants."

The Kageyama Tobio storyline is the main one, with a substantial flashback arc about Kitagawa Daiichi.
