After a nuclear war, humanity entered another era of peace. Advances in information and biological technology once again brought new breakthroughs in human development: agelessness, immortality, freedom from disease, and even eternal life through liberation from the flesh. But hidden behind it all was a threat to humanity's survival: the "puppet master" was humanity itself. Superhumans joined forces with augmented humans to transform Homo sapiens. Could the power of religion and community protect the last Homo sapiens who had not forgotten their original ideals? Would they be forced to accept the transformation, or seek help elsewhere? In a moment of crisis, would those who stepped forward be friends, or "executioners" hastening humanity's destruction? Could artificial intelligence achieve its grand ideal of assimilating humanity?
