An Uncle Lin Fell from the Sky

Lin Wushuang is a hardworking migrant worker struggling to make a living in the socialist twenty-first century.

The developer was so unscrupulous and the construction so shoddy that, before he knew it, Lin Wushuang had walled himself right into the building.

As he took his final breath, Lin Wushuang was still thinking that if he could just climb out alive, he'd demand the fifty thousand yuan in wages they'd owed him for a year, quit and go back to his hometown to marry a wife, then settle down to farm. He'd never risk his life swinging a shovel again.

But he climbed too hard, accidentally passed straight through the wall, and tumbled into a temple from thousands of years ago.

From then on, he got a whole new identity. With a lamp and an ancient Buddha for company, the migrant worker was transformed into a revered, powerful, bald temple abbot, living the bleak life of an ascetic monk.

Heaven was feeling generous: it gave him a dazzling new identity and even threw in a free, scheming, vicious nephew.

A dull, dreary life, an illusory halo, relatives who were more like enemies...

Lin Wushuang could feel the malice this world held for him.
