Yan Conglin was reborn.
In his previous life, he swallowed his pride and held himself back at every turn, only to see his family destroyed.
Bearing a blood feud, he survived one brush with death after another and eventually rose to the highest offices, becoming a feared killer in the capital.
But the sweet, charming little girl from Hexi Village had not escaped her prophesied early death.
Only later did he learn that she had indeed died young, but not because of fate. It was because people's hearts had changed.
After being killed by his sworn enemy, he returned to the age of fifteen.
When he woke again, the little girl had grown into a graceful young woman. Tilting her head with a smile, she said, "You're so handsome. I want you to be my husband."
"All right."
The little girl stared at him in astonishment, her round eyes wide.
Jiang Zhihuan was still secretly delighted, thinking she'd found herself a handsome live-in husband. She had no idea he was a wolf in sheep's clothing, plotting this for a long time.
"Have you heard? That poor boy from the Yan family actually wants to marry that jinx from the Jiang family!"
"A jinx marrying a pauper. They're a perfect match."
"A lovely young lady from a landlord's family like her will be a drudge before long!"
To their disappointment, the Jiang family's daughter married a poor scholar and enjoyed a happy marriage and a devoted husband. Her life only grew more prosperous, all the way to becoming a first-rank lady of the court, leaving her detractors far behind.
They dote on each other throughout! The male lead is reborn, and in his previous life he was gloomy and secretly in love with her.
[A new story in my column is available to follow!]
Rumor had it that Princess Yong'an had lived among the common people since childhood and did not return to the palace until she was twenty-four. She was exquisitely beautiful, the apple of the emperor and empress's eyes, and adored by countless noblemen and princes.
One day, an edict from the palace declared that Princess Yong'an had dreamed of flying stars and conceived as a result. The emperor and empress intended to find her a husband.
The whole capital was in an uproar, and her former suitors all backed away.
As the emperor and empress hesitated, the newly appointed top scholar stepped forward, saying he wished to ease their worries and asking to marry the princess.
Under the envious stares of his colleagues, Lu Shizhao's lips curled up, but no warmth reached his eyes.
Late that night, muffled, broken whimpers suddenly rang out from the princess's residence.
The top scholar held the princess's flushed, tear-streaked face in his hands and murmured plaintively,
"Sister-in-law, I willingly accept this bastard as my own."
The princess clenched her teeth. "Put the knife down first, then say that."
My sister-in-law is pregnant, and the child isn't mine.
As far back as Lu Shizhao could remember, Niang had been in the Lu household.
After Lu Dailang died, she became his widowed sister-in-law.
He had never paid her any attention, even though she had snow-white skin, dark eyes, and a bewitching beauty.
Until he saw this delicate woman slit a man's throat with a knife. His blood began to boil.
His gaze grew more and more brazen, clinging to her with a damp intensity.
The sister-in-law he'd called that for over a decade slowly began to mean something else.
Everyone knew that when Lu Shizhao and Princess Yong'an lived among the common people, they were called brother and sister but were really uncle and sister-in-law.
The ministers whispered among themselves, calling the newly appointed top scholar an ungrateful backstabber.
They said that as soon as he gained power, he repaid Princess Yong'an's care by turning his back on her and currying favor with the crown prince.
Now he was openly asking to marry her. Surely it was another devious scheme.
Seven-year age gap, both leads' first and only love, happy ending.
A younger, clingy, dark-hearted brother-in-law X a voluptuous beauty of a sister-in-law. Both leads are respectable people beneath their disguises.
Theme: Face challenges together, choose each other wholeheartedly, and leave no regrets.
I feel like the ending part is too rushed. It ends in one sentence. The first part is quite nice, but the middle part starts to feel rushed.
