What do you do when you discover you've landed in an old-fashioned romance novel full of melodramatic angst?
A book with a thousand chapters, where you appear in only five as a passerby.
Nian Zhi thinks: Great! She can sit on a little stool and watch the tragic romance between the male and female leads unfold, while also getting a close-up look at her longtime dream guy and showering him with praise.
What a bargain!
So, what would you do when your dream guy goes abroad and a poor little thing who looks just like him appears?
Nian Zhi: Obviously, I'll comfort him, care for him, look after him, and win him over with love. I'll drive away the people who bully him and shower him with praise for free. I might as well date him while I'm at it.
But then her dream guy suddenly returns from abroad, and the poor little thing is about to be abandoned.
Only then does Nian Zhi remember that this book has a mysterious big shot who turns dark after struggling through hardship and being cruelly abandoned by his first love.
Right now, the big shot is staring at her ominously, his fingers stroking her neck with dangerous intimacy. Yet he wears a bright, adorable smile. "Didn't you say you loved me most, Zhizhi? Wasn't I your dream guy?"
Nian Zhi: Tears streaming down her face.
Big shot, I was wrong. You're the dream guy I love most.

Note:
The heroine's feelings for her dream guy aren't romantic.
The hero is possessive, twisted, and sickly. He's not a good person.
The views expressed in this story do not represent the author's views. If you don't like it, please don't insult me! We should all learn kindness and virtue and build a harmonious society. Don't learn from the hero!
This idea came about because ever since I started reading novels, I've lost count of how many stories I've read where the heroine is the stand-in for the hero's dream girl, and the two of them go through a tragic romance. The heroine suffers both physically and emotionally, while the hero gets away with a little heartbreak at the end. It left me in tears, heartbroken. So here's a gender-swapped version of the dream-girl stand-in.
