"Are we best friends?"
The man switched on the bedside lamp. His brows and eyes were obscured by smoke, his expression impossible to make out.
"What do you think?"
.
Shi Yiyao returned to her hometown for a high school classmate's wedding and ran into Jiang Ze, her former deskmate, whom she hadn't seen in years.
They exchanged a few words, without smiling or making conversation.
In everyone's eyes, they'd always been like this: even when sitting at the same desk, their relationship was as bland as water.
At the end of the day, a car stopped beside Shi Yiyao. Behind the window was a handsome, aloof face.
Jiang Ze glanced at her indifferently and asked, "Is something wrong?"
Shi Yiyao had planned to pretend they didn't know each other, but his question made her almost laugh. "What could possibly be wrong with me?"
Jiang Ze said nothing. He started to roll up the window and drive off.
"About last night, I accidentally pressed it by mistake."
Shi Yiyao spoke up. "When we were in Beijing, I set you as my emergency contact. I never removed you... Last night I accidentally lay on my phone, and it called you on its own."
"Could you just pretend it never happened? Please?"
The car window, halfway up, stopped.
Jiang Ze turned his head slightly to look at her. "That's not up to you."
.
"Maybe there's always love in becoming close friends."
