The Scheming Chief Secretary's Darling

[My new novel, “The Substitute Princess and the Sickly Prince Regent,” is coming soon. It’s a sweet-and-angsty romance. Click my author page to add it to your collection~~]

[This story is almost complete. Straight romance, one-on-one, sweet ending.]

[Goofy writing style. Historical nitpickers, stay away.]

[The Grand Secretariat acts out the classic chase-your-wife-to-the-crematorium trope.]

The unserious version

At first meeting:

Xie Yunjue: “Even if every woman in Chang’an died, I still wouldn’t marry you.”

Later: “Even if you don’t agree to marry me, I’ll make you.”

At first meeting:

“How can a woman be so unruly? She’s infuriating.”

Later: “My wife is so cute.”

At first meeting:

“Why do you always resort to swords and knives? Can’t you think things through before you act?”

Later: “My wife, I brought your knife.”

At first meeting:

“Without the prime minister’s protection, could you still throw your weight around like this?”

Later: “Your husband will back you up. Go ahead and make trouble.”

The story

When Mu Chenxi was eighteen,

Her father died.

The sitting prime minister was accused of treason and colluding with the enemy, and his entire family was sentenced to death.

Only she and her useless younger brother survived.

Meanwhile, Xie Yunjue became head of the Xie family, with power over the whole court.

The noblewomen of Tang all mocked her: “Let’s see who can still stand up for you now.”

But at the palace banquet,

When a peerlessly handsome young nobleman entered, hand in hand with a delicate young woman,

Their smug expressions all crumbled...

Mu Chenxi once believed that, after her parents died unjustly,

She would spend her whole life in darkness, bathing in the blood of her enemies.

But the man who had once hated her with all his heart took her hand,

Helped her, protected her, and cherished her.

Mu Chenxi: (horrified) “Are you after something from me?!”

Xie Yunjue: “I want you to continue the Xie family line.”

Mu Chenxi: “Σ(⊙▽⊙"a”
