Don't Ride My Coattails

In two years since her debut, Pei Chuzhi had barely scraped her way into the ranks of C-list celebrities. The best opportunity she had landed was filming a luxury car commercial with rising Best Actor Xing Ye. In the glossy ad, she wore a red dress that accentuated her graceful figure. Leaning against the car, she lowered her eyes and smiled, her beauty dazzling. Just as she was finally starting to gain some recognition, her manager had an idea. "How about we keep riding Xing Ye's coattails?" Pei Chuzhi gave him a look. "Are you trying to get me kicked out of showbiz?" Everyone in the industry knew Xing Ye was exactly like his name suggested: wild and arrogant. Female stars had one after another tried to ride his coattails, only to end up publicly humiliated by Xing Ye himself. Unexpectedly, one day her manager rushed into her home. "Xing Ye asked if you'd be willing to pretend to be a couple with him! In exchange, he'll use his connections to make you famous!" Pei Chuzhi: "...Has he lost his mind?" - Little Scene - At their final "date," Pei Chuzhi conscientiously deleted all their contact information. "Thanks for taking care of me all this time. Don't worry, once the contract expires, I won't pester you." Xing Ye's eyes were dark and unreadable. After a long pause, he let out a low laugh. "You'd better keep your word." That very night, at a celebration banquet, Pei Chuzhi was relentlessly harassed by a notorious investor. She arched a brow and curled her lips into a silent smile. The investor cursed her for not knowing what was good for her. "Still hung up on Xing Ye? He's rich and powerful, and he only got into showbiz for a bit of fun. Don't get your hopes up." Before he could finish, a cold laugh sounded from behind them. Half of Xing Ye's face was swallowed by shadow. His jaw tightened, and his eyes blazed with fury. "She's mine. Try laying a finger on her." Reading Guide: 1. A wild, alpha male star vs. a gorgeous rising starlet who knows how to use her looks to get her way 2. Weibo: @A Cup of Cat-Tail Tea Theme:
