Never Leaving Chang'an

[Chang'an Arc] He was once a tree that had lived for two hundred years beside an ancient temple, scorched day after day by incense smoke and gnawed at by ants. Before he fell, a woman consumed by a great fire was buried beneath his roots, her ashes laid under his tree. In a single night, he became a tree spirit. Three thousand years passed before he finally found her. The girl lay on the rooftop, legs crossed as she watched the rosy clouds, looking languid and at ease. She asked, "What is your name?" He saw the words she had written in her book: One glance from her, and I would never leave Chang'an. Never leave: that was what the words meant. So he slowly replied, "My name is Chang'an." [Fuyi Arc] What's it like to have a thousand-year-old tree spirit by your side? If she wants it, he has it. Fuyi: I want to chase my idol. Chang'an: Okay. Fuyi: I want to go to a concert. Chang'an: Okay. Fuyi: I was wondering, would you marry me? Chang'an: ...Why? Three thousand years of splendor have all passed, and Fuyi remembers none of it. Right now, all she does is clutch the man's clothes and rub her forehead against his shoulder. "Just consider me... a creature of appetite and desire." P.S. A sweet, feel-good story with a slightly slow start and some heartbreak. Theme:
