[Title]
This book was originally called Half a Cup of Spring After Ten Years in the Martial World (see the cover). A friend said no one would read a title like that and insisted on something self-explanatory! So it was renamed The Amnesiac Cult Leader.
[Warning] This is a danmei martial arts story! The leads switch roles! There's some angst along the way, but it has a happy ending!
[Length] 200,000 characters (updates 8,000 a day)
[Couple] Dugu Chunsheng x Luan Zhen (demonic cult leader x orthodox sect leader)
Both are strong and switch roles. Who tops or bottoms is just part of the fun, as long as they're happy.
[Synopsis]
After ten years in seclusion, I opened my eyes and realized I had amnesia!
(It looks like a martial arts story with a slightly literary feel, but it's actually a love story.)
[Preview of the Main Text]
I took out my Nine-Dragon Flute and casually played a tune. My long, pale fingers, their knuckles distinct, rested on the flute's dragon-bone holes. I could have been an immortal or a ghost.
A full moon hung in the sky, a cold jade disc. The flute's expansive melody swept through the treetops and soared toward the moon.
My lost memories were like a tarnished bronze mirror, suddenly polished bright at some moment.
"What song is that?"
"The Song of the Green Sparrow."
"It's beautiful, but a little lonely."
"A solitary tune for a solitary soul."
"You have me. You won't be lonely."
The flute in the present and the zither from my memories intertwined, and I couldn't tell which was lonelier. Gradually, they blended together in a tacit harmony, repeating the same passage, like a bird's two wings, soaring freely and tenderly from the forest to the clouds. My memories slowly blurred, then the thread snapped. The zither faded with them, dissolving into the boundless night until only my flute still echoed beneath the moon.
A sudden pain seized my heart, as if I had once found the only soul in the world that matched mine, only to lose it in the long river of time. Compared with the loneliness of never having had it, the pain of having and losing it would make the rest of my life feel all the longer.
The distant zither flowed from the past into the present. After ten years of cold and silence, only a few scattered, tuneless notes remained, settling into my breath like the beating of a heart. It seemed I might remember every detail in the next second, or perhaps it would only slip silently into the cold cave when dreams descended
leaving you to open your eyes alone, through countless dark nights.
I started writing this in May 2019 and had only gotten a little over 20,000 characters in when World of Warcraft Classic launched... In the middle, I got distracted by games and nearly gave up (eating, drinking, and having fun is way better than writing). Then in 2024, I happened to see someone comment on my old story, Asking the Heart of the Martial World, Not the Road. The readers' encouragement reignited my martial arts passion, and I felt it would be such a shame not to finish. I expect it to be 200,000 characters. I've written 70,000 so far, and I estimate I'll finish in 2025. I'll post the whole thing once it's done.
Compared with the concise style of my previous danmei martial arts story, Asking the Heart of the Martial World, Not the Road, this one experiments with detailed, elaborate descriptions. Readers who liked the old style may find this one more tiring to read. It's tiring to write, too, which is why it's taken me so long. (Right, it's not because I played Warcraft, Diablo, and The Sims, watched Word of Honor, got into real-person shipping, and got badly hurt.)
