Everyone says Shen Enci is hard to read, fickle, and completely crazy.
The first time Su Zhixun saw him was at a funeral. He stood in the courtyard, backlit, wearing a refined and gentle smile. His eyes were hidden in shadow, dark and unreadable. He was devastatingly handsome.
Su Zhixun never imagined then that she would spend so many years by his side, raised by him and basking in his one-of-a-kind tenderness.
Su Zhixun thinks she's gone crazy too. She's fallen madly in love with him, so much so that she even hopes his illness will get worse, until he loses control and no one else can get close to him, leaving only her at his side.
Shen Enci realizes that the lovely girl he raised has grown up and is avoiding him. After forcing her to stay by his side for so many years, he doesn't want to, but he knows he should let her go.
He thought she'd leave without looking back, but she kept saying she loved him. Shen Enci stared impassively at her tearful face. "You chose this yourself. Since you don't want to leave, then you'll never leave."

Shen Enci's greatest pleasure is watching the lovely girl in his arms cry and cry without end.
He comforted her tenderly, though insincerely. "Your eyes are swollen. Haven't you cried enough yet?"
Su Zhixun let out a few more soft, delicate sobs, thinking, If I don't cry, how will you ever soften?
Shen Enci glanced at her and knew exactly what she was thinking.
He pinched Su Zhixun's chin between his fingertips and raised her tear-streaked little face. His grip was a little too rough, and Su Zhixun let out a small cry. Shen Enci's expression turned a little cruel.
"Go on, cry a few more times. Let's see if I'll soften."
Su Zhixun blinked her big, glistening eyes, realized something was wrong, and stopped crying at once.
"Why'd you stop?" Shen Enci kissed the corner of her eye, his lips cold.
Su Zhixun pouted. If there's nothing in it for me, crying is a waste of time...
If you defy me, I'll be your tyrannical lord. Obey me, and I'll be your most loyal knight, kissing your fingertips and offering you my soul.
Perhaps I'll never be able to love you normally, but in my mind, you matter more than anything.
