After Bai Suzhen was imprisoned beneath Leifeng Pagoda, Xiao Qing received guidance from the Old Mother of Mount Li. For hundreds of years, she wandered the world alone, striving to earn merit on Bai Suzhen's behalf and hoping she would soon be freed from the pagoda.

So Xiao Qing simply took on Xue Pan's appearance, tricked his family, and rescued the woman. She then traveled with them to the capital and took up residence as a guest in the Jia household.
After that, Xiao Qing wandered by mistake into the Land of Illusion. In the Department of the Doomed, she saw the register of the Twelve Beauties and sneered, "A thousand beauties weep, ten thousand fair ones mourn? I refuse to let things go the way you immortals want!"
