Everyone gathered nervously, preparing to face the crisis.
Then they discovered that the world's most dangerous threat was actually a soft-spoken, polite thirteen- or fourteen-year-old... medieval princess who apologized whenever she saw someone get hurt?
Maggie, the harmless, weak, pitiful Stuart, trembled in fear.
A Guide to Raising a Princess

Very slow-paced.
The plot may be messy, but it mostly follows the story's own flow.
Maggie starts out weak and helpless, but later the true sweet-outside, dark-inside Maggie makes her appearance.
