The Island and the Blue Whale

New work in progress: Married to a Disabled General Blurb: After the 108th time snapping back at her sharp-tongued lodger, Xu Nian once again regretted letting Cheng Yiyu into her home on a whim. The man leaning against the doorframe had broad shoulders, long legs, and striking features. In theory, he should have been a pleasure to look at. If only he could move. As Xu Nian put it, her relationship with Cheng Yiyu went like this: Whenever Xu Nian reached for a dish, he spun the table. Whenever Xu Nian drank water, he slammed on the brakes. In short, they were like fire and water. She thought all would be well once Director Cheng finished his documentary and left. But then, one beautiful evening... Xu Nian looked up at Cheng Yiyu, who was blocking the doorway, incredulous. "What did you say about me?" The man wore a simple black T-shirt and jeans. With his deep-set eyes, high nose bridge, and calm tone, he sounded as if he were stating a fact. "I said, if you really like me that much, I suppose I could give dating you a try." Xu Nian: ? Cheng Yiyu raised an eyebrow and asked, "Isn't that right?" "If you don't like me, why did you pull me out of the water?" "If you don't like me, why did you let me stay at your place?" "If you don't like me, why do you cook for me every day?" Xu Nian looked at the giant sign for "XX Guesthouse" outside her door and thought of the meal money Director Cheng had just paid her. She fell silent, at a loss for words. "...Whatever makes you happy." As soon as she finished speaking, Cheng Yiyu's lips curled up in plain satisfaction. Then the cool scent of mint brushed her forehead. It was gentle and soft, yet full of possessive intent. The man's low voice sounded beside her ear: "That's all I needed to hear." "So, want to go on a date?" Cheng Yiyu chuckled. "Girlfriend?" Theme: No matter what adversity you face, you can keep moving forward with optimism.
