A Crush That Crosses the Line

Beneath the night sky, smoke billows from the barbecue stall. Chen Jiasui, small and nimble, flips skewers and sprinkles on the seasoning, working like a top.

A regular jokes that she's so beautiful she could be called the Goddess of Barbecue.

Chen Jiasui grabs a spatula, ready to whack him. Then she looks up and spots a handsome, aloof face in the crowd. She quickly puts down the spatula, blushing as she asks what he'd like.

"Two rice cake skewers," Xu Hanzhou says flatly.

He doesn't remember her at all.

"What made you think of eating barbecue?" asks a tall, beautiful woman beside him with a smile.

They walk away together, chatting and laughing. They make a perfect couple, well matched in every way.

Chen Jiasui lowers her head and glances at her grease-stained hands, instinctively drawing them back.

She doesn't even deserve to stand beside him.

Chen Jiasui first approached Xu Hanzhou out of admiration, out of infatuation, out of love.

But no matter how much you love someone, disappointment accumulates, little by little.

The night before she left was, as she vaguely remembered, a day of clear skies and gentle clouds.

She was rushing around in the kitchen, busy as could be. As she carried a tray out to serve his friends, she overheard them talking about her: "Man, you're really not picky."

"That sort of woman... She isn't much to look at, she's dumb and stingy, and she reeks of cooking oil. If you've been kidnapped, just nod."

Xu Hanzhou lowers his head and takes a bite, his expression unchanged. "At least she's clean."
