On a clear, sunny weekend, a family went hiking in the mountains, enjoying the fresh air and gentle breeze.
"Mom, look! There's a snowflake here!" the little girl cried, full of wonder and excitement, suddenly stopping in her tracks.
"A snowflake?" The woman didn't laugh at her daughter. Instead, she patiently looked up at the sky and saw warm, dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves.
Turning her palm upward, the woman smiled and asked, "How could it snow on such a warm day?"
"It's right here! I saw it, right on the tip of the grass!" the little girl said urgently, pointing to a clump of weeds beside the stone steps.
The woman bent down to look, unconvinced. There was only a blade of grass covered in dew.
"Could it have been a dandelion?" She straightened the girl's sun hat. "Come on. When we get down the mountain, I'll buy you a hamburger."
Year 2482, deep winter.
Year 2484, cold wave.
A global blizzard of highly radioactive blue crystals swept across the planet. The ice never melted, and snowstorms blanketed every ocean and continent. The Ice Core Research Institute, "Blue," was founded.
Year 2485, doomsday.
Civilization on the surface came to an end. The surviving humans moved underground.
Year 2586, new government.
The "Whitefeather" temporary ruling party, formed during the great cold wave, was established.
The "Blazing Sun" security and defense force was established.
Year 2587, honor.
The "Sprout" award for outstanding citizens was established.
Year 2590, equality.
The "Last Deep Flame," a union for the operators of the Fireplace Fortress, was founded.
Year 2600, uprising.
The resistance alliance "Unyielding Will" was founded.
