Chapter One: The Past

I watched this story as a child, and it left me so uneasy that I was nearly heartbroken throughout my childhood. How could my Prince of Han, such a brilliant and mighty man, die so casually? Later, I heard that a Taiwanese version explained that the characters were immortals who had descended to the mortal world to undergo a trial. After a few brief decades of life and death, they could return to the heavens and pick up where they left off. That meant they would be together for all eternity. For immortals, a single lifetime is so long. That ending seemed to ease some of my childhood sorrow. Back in those days, when the internet was not widespread, I didn't know about that plotline, and I worried about them for so long. Now that I know, even though it all becomes a myth, I still feel uneasy. I used to imagine so many different endings for the Prince of Han and Pei Yao, not the rushed, mythological ending. They still had so many stories ahead of them. I loved how Pei Yao acted when she was with Chong Ba: sweet and adorable like a young girl, and a little mischievous, too. Why did she become so melancholy, composed, and level-headed when she was with my Prince of Han? Maybe she had matured. After going through so many upheavals, Pei Yao couldn't remain as untouched by the world as she once was. As for their future, since Pei Yao had ended up with such an exceptionally good man as the Prince of Han, she certainly wouldn't need to worry about a thing. A woman who had been spoiled for so long should return to her most carefree self. Her old, flirtatious mischievousness would gradually show again. Fans of the Prince of Han, don't worry. I promise I won't make him go back home to farm. He was born into a fishing family, so I won't make him do work unrelated to his background. Our brilliant and mighty Prince of Han has another career to pursue.
