Three Flames

Song Huaijun was a year younger than Lin Shen, yet he had a niece who had just graduated from college. His niece was fresh-faced, delicate, graceful, and quiet. Whenever they met, she would politely greet him: "Hello, Uncle Lin."

Lin Shen always told her she didn't need to be so formal, but she would shake her head and reply with unusual seriousness, "You're my uncle's friend. It wouldn't be proper to call you anything else."

Song Huaijun often told his niece, "Uncle Lin is just like your real uncle. You don't need to be so formal with him," but it never made much difference.

So Song Huaijun never imagined that the two of them could get together.

Then one late night, he brought beer to his best friend's place, ready for a heart-to-heart, and spotted a familiar pair of shoes by the door. As he went farther inside, clothes were scattered all over the floor, with a pink jacket standing out most of all.

The bedroom door was shut tight. Song Huaijun flew into a rage and pounded on it so hard the whole place shook. "Lin Shen, you bastard! That's my niece!"

A slow-burn, cozy everyday-life story.
