Synopsis

This is a story written solely to call out people who treat their personal headcanons as established facts. It's perfectly normal for different authors to have different worldbuilding choices when writing novels. That's beyond dispute. I can't control what settings people choose to write, nor should I, and I have my own headcanons too. But some people insist their headcanons are canonical and pick fights with others over them. It shouldn't be that hard to read a few academic papers, look through some local gazetteers, and check the laws first. If you can't access CNKI, you can always try Doc88 or Baidu Scholar. There are countless historical-setting flame wars, and half of them are about the “legitimate versus concubine-born” doctrine. I still can't understand why people do this. I feel like there's already plenty of malice toward women in this world, but in novels, I've seen a malice that's even more profound.
