Standing at Both Ends of Time [Republican Era]

Mei Jin waited her whole life for He Zhicheng amid the chaos of war, and at last, He Zhicheng came to her with a house full of children and grandchildren. As she closed her eyes, Mei Jin thought: If there really is another life, or even another after that, she never wants to see He Zhicheng again, not ever. But on the day she opened her eyes, He Zhicheng was waiting for her outside the girls' school. The foreigners had not yet entered the city, the fighting had not yet begun, and He Zhicheng still had her in his heart. Though she knew how things would end, Mei Jin decided to keep He Zhicheng locked away in her heart and focus on making a living in a chaotic age, and on the greater good of her family and country. He Zhicheng watched Mei Jin, completely at home in the dance hall with a glass of wine in hand, and found her a stranger, as if they had never met. Recipe: 1. Three parts sweetness, three parts angst, and four parts devotion to family and country. 2. A serious, realistic story. 3. Keep tissues and heart medication handy while reading.
