The Gods Forgot They'd Turned Evil

There is a city in this world called Yuan Gu City, where people who have withdrawn from the mortal world live. They revere the city lord as a god.

There is also the Chigu River. They say that entering its waters feels like countless insects gnawing at your bones. Those with weak wills who make it through the river emerge as evil spirits in human bodies.

Xi Jun had entered and emerged from that river several times.

Once, when Xi Jun came out of the river, he had lost all awareness and was consumed by hatred. He abducted a beautiful woman to a wooden cabin in the mountains, intending to obey his mother's dying wish and continue the family line with her.

You Bai lived in that mountain cabin for several years, until Xi Jun fell into the Chigu River once more. After he emerged, Xi Jun became an evil spirit. He took control of You Bai's body and used a formation to make her obey like a puppet. Using talismans, he repeatedly made her say that she wanted him and wanted to marry him.

Those capable of vanquishing evil spirits in this world all come from the Four Great Sects. When the disciples of the Four Sects heard that someone intended to use a resurrection spell to bring the dead back to life, they all descended the mountain to stop him.

The resurrection spell is a death spell.

To bring one person back to life, it takes the lives of ten million.

Later, they heard that the man intended to find water from the Chigu River and use it to bring his younger brother back to life. The disciples figured a grandmaster would have to step in to deal with this.

When the Four Grandmasters found Xi Jun, he had already become an evil spirit. He had laid out a great formation and taken control of everyone in a city. He intended to marry You Bai, whose mind was clear, but whose body moved like a puppet.

The Four Grandmasters wept bitterly, unsure whether they should first pay their respects to the city lord they had not seen in years or save You Bai.

But the four of them together still could not defeat Xi Jun. Worse, their spells were sealed, and they were immobilized in the courtyard, forced to watch as Xi Jun led You Bai through the three bows and nine kowtows. The ceremony was complete, and he sent her into the bridal chamber...
