Have We Gotten Back Together Yet?

On Weibo, there’s a topic called #HaveShiRanAndXuNanhuiGottenBackTogetherToday#, which has stubbornly kept updating for five years. Eight years ago, Shi Ran and Xu Nanhui became famous for starring in a hit girls’ love drama. Their romance was exposed, and their relationship moved from the screen into real life, earning them a huge following of fans who shipped them as a couple. Three years later, they announced their breakup without giving any reason. Five years later, they appeared together again because they had both accepted roles on the same laid-back lifestyle variety show. A reporter asked, “Is there any chance you two will get back together now that you’re working together?” Shi Ran replied expressionlessly, “No chance. Don’t even think about it.” Xu Nanhui swallowed the words on the tip of her tongue. After a long pause, she said calmly, “It’s just a job.” * Later, during filming, Xu Nanhui would take her account book to Shi Ran’s room every night to discuss work. She stayed for exactly fifteen minutes, not a moment more or less. Until one day, the director’s assistant hurried over to report, “Xu Nanhui still hasn’t come out of Shi Ran’s room.” The director remained perfectly calm. “They’ve been filming for so many days. If they were going to get back together, they’d have done it already. Why wait until today?” The assistant shook her head anxiously. “The lights are off...” Fake-cold, secretly adorable idol-drama queen x cool, elegant, hugely popular actress Four-year age gap.
