A train from the 1940s sped along the tracks, its blaring whistle piercing through a dream. Tom Riddle, who had long since forgotten his own name, awoke with a start. The red-haired girl's face had grown hazy, but one pair of eyes remained exceptionally clear in his memory.
Back when he was a student, she was one of the few bright spots in his gloomy life.
He remembered what she had said. He remembered her saying she loved him, praising him, and telling him he would become rich and powerful, that everything would be completely different from how it was now.
For once, he chose to believe her, unaware that trust so often ends in betrayal.
The relationships we form in life must pass through several stages: meeting, parting, reuniting, and parting again.
Many years later, one night, Tom stared blankly at the sky. Lightning flashed and thunder rumbled, while an unknown bird struggled to escape the storm.
He raised his wand. "Avada Kedavra."
The wind scattered the pages of an old Muggle poetry collection spread across the table. The page it fell open to read: "If you live, yet do not wish to be remembered, then die alone, together with your portrait."
It no longer mattered what his name was. In this world, no one would ever again laugh and call out his unusual surname.
"Riddle."
* This story was first published in 2019.
* Tom Riddle x original female lead
* The female lead's exact identity will be revealed in a later extra. Her only golden finger is the ability to predict a person's future based on their important possessions, with side effects that vary according to the importance of the item.
* Harry Potter belongs to Rowling. Any OOC characterization is mine.
* I wrote this story simply to recreate the youth of Tom Riddle as I imagine it, and to explore redemption and being redeemed. Everything is based on the original work. I have researched his school life to flesh it out, and I'll say so if I make anything up.
