Seven-character regulated verse: The Eighteenth Summer Solstice
Withered grass stretches across the city beneath the evening sky;
Half the river is shaded by willows, half gleams gold.
Every summer solstice, the chill seeps into your bones;
Every autumn equinox, the blaze scorches my heart.
Alas, today I leave alone, my shadow my only companion;
How can I bear to search for you in dreams of days gone by?
Where there is no forgetting, there is no remembering;
May rivers and mountains journey in your place.
