He was the first angel created, and one of the highest-ranking archangels. He possessed glory beyond compare: serving at God's right hand.
One day, an evil thought suddenly arose in his heart: "I will make myself equal to God!"
So he set himself up as king in the far north of Heaven and led a rebel army of angels in an assault on God's holy mountain. After their defeat, he fell from Heaven into the dark realm of Chaos.
From then on, he was called Satan, meaning "adversary," because he had become God's enemy.
After humanity, the new creatures, were created, Satan sought revenge by tempting Adam, the first man, to eat the forbidden fruit. He tampered with the human spirit as God had made it, giving humanity, which had once been as pure as a child, a self-awareness that could distinguish good from evil, and thereby a sinful nature that shunned good and pursued evil.
God sought to save humanity, while Satan sought to seize it. Caught between their struggle, humanity fell into a wretched state.
In the end, God had no choice but to carry out the ultimate plan of salvation He had long been preparing.
The instant God made this decision, it was as though nails pierced His hands and feet, and a spearpoint drove into His side.
