The Straight Man

Fans have noticed that Cheng Meirong, a young crosstalk performer with the Huaxia Society, has been acting strangely lately. His grandmaster leaves a comment, and he rushes in to claim the first reply. The moment he sees his grandmaster, his face turns red and his eyes sparkle like a lovestruck girl's...

After Cheng Meirong became famous, the performances he did with Feng Ke could only be described as a catastrophic display of public affection.

Feng Ke had claimed to be Cheng Meirong's fan to hide his identity.

Then Cheng Meirong openly admitted onstage that he slept with his fans.

Feng Ke always felt something was off, but never gave it much thought.

Things like this happened too many times.

Finally, one day, a fan got hold of the microphone and shouted, "Cheng Meirong! Your eyes sparkle like stars whenever you look at your grandmaster! Do you even realize that?"

Cheng Meirong: "...I kind of do."

This is the story of a young woman who could rule half the crosstalk world thanks to her seniority. Raised as a boy from childhood, she eventually disguised herself as a man and, through her own hard work (not really), came to rule the other half as well.

Feng Ke had spent more than ten years studying hard and getting whacked with a little bamboo stick. When she turned eighteen, she learned that all her efforts in the first half of her life had been in vain. Wouldn't it be more comfortable for a veteran artist of her seniority to lounge in a rocking chair and collect holiday gifts from the younger generation? Why work hard? That's what kids are for.
