The Two Beauties

Graceful and refined, wise and virtuous: these are words to describe the empress, not her virtuous consort, Rong Zhao.

The emperor said, "Her eyes are like a fathomless pool. Yours are like clear water, so transparent you can see right through them."

Given another chance at life, Rong Zhao thinks she can finally outshine her older sister, only to discover that her sister's behavior is becoming stranger and stranger.

Rong Yi has loved her younger sister all her life.

Rong Zhao doesn't know this. Rong Yi had meant for her never to find out.

But then that man appears.

Looking into eyes just as deep as a pool, Rong Yi slowly, slowly smiles.

"I don't understand. Why would someone like you love a person whose thoughts are so easy to read?"

The man smiles too.

He kisses the clean, clear tea at the corner of his lips and says in a voice so tender Rong Yi has never heard the like: "Some people like deep pools. Others naturally like clear water. To me, her eyes aren't clear water. They're pure sunlight."

Hidden behind the curtain, Rong Zhao trembles slightly.

Those are the most beautiful words of love she's ever heard.
