---Everyone's First Love Is a Whole Thing
They say first love is the hardest to make work, and the hardest to forget.
Luo Xiaoyang, my first love. When I first met him, he was a sunny, cheerful boy. The star player on the basketball team, the number one guy in our class. Plenty of people had a crush on him, and I was one of them. I followed him around every day, sucking up to him and acting like his little sidekick. One day, when I was feeling unwell and took the day off, he called me to a corner of the basketball court and gave me a talking-to. After that, I was no longer single.
After we got together, not much changed. I still followed him around. The difference was that he matched my pace, slowing down to walk with me, and sometimes he'd take my hand.
The relationship lasted over a year. We broke up after the college entrance exams. I don't remember why we broke up. I only remember that we were both drunk that night.
The next day, all our contact information was gone, and somehow he had disappeared too. I couldn't find him. It was as if the whole thing had been a dream. None of my friends could get in touch with him either. He was nowhere to be found.
I tried hard to remember, but all I could vaguely recall was one sentence: "Let's break up." Those words kept echoing in my head, over and over. They must have been the last thing he ever said to me.
I wasn't sad. I wasn't heartbroken. That's a lie. The truth is, over the past year or so, I'd been prepared for us to break up at any moment. He was top-notch in every way, while I was just an ordinary person. What did I have that could match him? Nothing.
