I’ve tried my hand at plenty of online games, but the one I’ve always been especially fond of is Wen Dao.
To be honest, Chinese-made games aren’t very popular, and 2D games are now facing the threat of being phased out. But its classical style and simple controls kept me playing all this time. I’ve now reached the highest level, so I suppose I can call it a job well done...
Playing this game introduced me to lots of people and helped me make plenty of friends, so I’ve wanted to write something about it for a long time.
One day last year, I suddenly got inspired and wrote several chapters of a web novel about Wen Dao. But in the end, it died before it got off the ground because I lacked the perseverance to continue. Actually, I spent most of that time playing the game again, and even switched to a new server, where I powered my way up to the current level cap. One word: oof.
Wen Dao is probably a pretty simple game, without much technical depth.
It does have beautiful graphics, though, and the music is lovely. If you’re interested, you can download it online and give it a listen. I recommend the East Sea Fishing Village, Shili Slope, and Earth Mountain areas.
