A CP Fan's Guide to Self-Rescue

As a veteran fan of fictional couples, Ruan Xinyu has an impressive track record: every couple she ships has ended up getting married.

So when the newest couple she ships shows signs of a breakup, Ruan Xinyu panics. Her eyes are a measuring stick! How could she have shipped a fake couple?

Ruan Xinyu immediately decides to enter the entertainment industry and personally bring her couple together.

The first step is to commission a script for their second project together.

On an expert's recommendation, Ruan Xinyu approaches the industry's mysterious, award-winning screenwriter, Yan Zhao.

Yan Zhao is famous for his talent and terrible temper. He writes scripts entirely according to his mood.

He doesn't covet fame or fortune. Well, that's because his scripts never lack investors.

He isn't afraid of the powerful. If an investor tries to force someone into the cast, he tears them to shreds and finds another investor.

He's a tough nut to crack.

Ruan Xinyu looks at herself. Apart from having a bit of money, she doesn't seem to have much going for her.

Wait, she has her own body too.

Ahem, don't get the wrong idea.

Ruan Xinyu thinks she can win Yan Zhao over with her hard work.

By a twist of fate, Ruan Xinyu becomes a live-in housekeeper at Yan Zhao's home.

Though she wakes up later than Yan Zhao and goes to bed earlier, and her undercover mission nearly falls apart, Ruan Xinyu manages not to get fired thanks to her excellent cooking.

After diligently serving him hand and foot for several months, Ruan Xinyu feels they've formed an unbreakable employer-employee bond. So, on a dark and stormy night, she asks him to write a custom script.

Then comes a loud "Bang--"

Ruan Xinyu is successfully kicked out of the house.

GAME OVER.

Ruan Xinyu is devastated. She feels her couple is on the verge of breaking up.

Yan Zhao's scripts are always both popular and critically acclaimed in the industry, and often impossible to get your hands on. Though his romantic storylines are often criticized, they make up such a small part of the scripts that their flaws are overshadowed by the strengths.

But Yan Zhao himself isn't satisfied.

So he secretly creates an account on a website to write romance novels, but nobody pays any attention to them.

Yan Zhao is a little irritable. Is romance really his natural enemy?

By chance, he discovers that his newly hired housekeeper isn't just a great cook, but also a loyal reader of his novels whose comments on them are always insightful.

Little by little, Yan Zhao starts watching the stars and moon with the housekeeper, talking from poetry and prose to the philosophy of life.

At the same time, his romance-writing career begins to take off. He feels he's found a kindred spirit.

But then--

"It's all a lie!"

Thinking back on what happened, Yan Zhao is furious. He wishes he could travel back several months and shake his gullible past self awake.

Everything the housekeeper did was for his script! He poured his sincere feelings into the mouth of a dog.

Permanently blocked!

Later on--

Yan Zhao is forced into a blind date. Looking at the guilty person sitting across from him, he sneers and speaks sarcastically.

"Oh, Lei Xiaoyu?"

"My maternal grandfather picked it. I used that name until I started elementary school."

"Studied early childhood education?"

"I looked after my eldest nephew for a few days."

"Poor family, desperately in need of money?"

"I was short on cash after my dad kicked me out, that's true."

Yan Zhao--

On the outside, he keeps smiling. "Miss Ruan, your eloquence is astounding. I can't compare. I never knew you studied acting."

On the inside, he seethes: I'll block you ten thousand more times!
