I was revisiting Journey to the West when I came across an episode where a monster abducts a bride and treats the queen so well that even when the Great Sage gets his hands on a treasure he'd given her, she never suspects him. She thinks the Great Sage stole it. I was struck by the monster's feelings for her and how unconditionally he accepted her, so I wrote this.
