In the Chengcui Palace, An Zhi stood by the window, reading a scroll. The slanting autumn sun cast its light upon him. His face was as handsome as jade, and standing by the window in the breeze, he looked just as he had years ago: calm and composed, tall and straight as a green pine or bamboo, a delight to behold.
Han Xuan was entranced. He thought of the year he was sixteen, when the young man had stood with his hands behind his back, reciting poetry. They had spoken beneath the moon, sharing lofty discussions and refined pleasures, poring over history and debating the present. How carefree and untroubled they had been. The years had passed, and Han Xuan had stubbornly gone too far. There was no undoing it now. Hatred must have taken deep root in the young man's heart. Between the two of them, nothing remained but silence.
From beginning to end, no matter when or where, An Zhi had always been beyond Han Xuan's reach. Han Xuan knew that pursuing him so stubbornly would only destroy the little mutual affection they had left, leaving no hope for the future. All he could do for the rest of his life was drown himself in old memories for comfort.
Han Xuan laughed bitterly to himself. What future did he have left?

I originally wanted to download it and read it on my kindle, but that didn't seem to work. I could only download it in the e-book published by Jinjiang Literature. . .
