They met again at an industry cocktail party.
At the time, Jin's mother was trying to set Jin Mingzhu up with one of Xu Ming'an's business partners.
Ignoring her mother's endless chatter and Xu Ming'an entirely, Jin Mingzhu addressed his partner. "I'm sorry, my mom probably hasn't explained things clearly."
She pulled over a man who was already half-drunk and said lightly, "I've been married before, and it didn't go very well."
She took the half-drunk man's arm and smiled radiantly, carefree as ever. "This is my ex-husband. Would you like to meet him?"
Xu Ming'an swirled his champagne, his knuckles whitening around the glass.
He smiled and took a few steps forward, deliberately forcing himself into her line of sight. "Miss Jin, why not introduce me too?"
Jin Mingzhu's lashes fluttered, but she never looked at him.
Jin Mingzhu couldn't understand why she always ran into the first love she'd dumped at her most embarrassing moments.
Worse still, the people standing beside her were never any good.
Later, at a family banquet, Xu Ming'an's cousin got drunk and began insulting his ex-wife.
As everyone tried to calm him down, Xu Ming'an suddenly tapped the table and looked up at him, his voice cool. "Show some respect. She's your future cousin-in-law."
The whole room fell deathly silent.
After the banquet, Xu Ming'an, fighting off his drunkenness, went to the foot of Jin Mingzhu's apartment building and called her.
"It's late. What do you want?" Jin Mingzhu asked indifferently.
"Hey, I'm downstairs," Xu Ming'an said. He took off his suit jacket, loosened his collar, and sat on the steps nearby. "How about you think it over? Once it's light out, we can go register our marriage."
