The most notorious Dark Lord in European history, Gellert Grindelwald, told another Dark Lord the last and most tender lie of his life, and calmly welcomed the killing curse from the other party.
"Albus, we are meeting again."
Grindelwald himself didn't know when he discovered his feelings for Dumbledore. Was it during the decisive battle with him in 1945? Dumbledore was so dazzling and powerful, perhaps it was destined that the two of them should be together instead of brutally fighting or even dueling.
After decades in prison, Grindelwald figured out that those bright, twinkling blue eyes were the most important thing in his life and the most worth protecting. In other words, a victory without Dumbledore is not a victory.
