Grindelwald himself didn't know when he realized his feelings for Dumbledore. Was it during their fateful duel in 1945? Dumbledore was so dazzling, so powerful. Perhaps the two of them were destined to be together, rather than locked in a cruel rivalry that even led to a duel.

During his decades in prison, Grindelwald came to understand that those bright, sparkling blue eyes were the most important thing in his life, and the thing most worth protecting. In other words, a victory without Dumbledore isn't a victory.

"Only death can bring us together, Albus."
